Air Asia Statement

1. Until the recent and tragic event involving Indonesia AirAsia flight QZ 8501, the AirAsia Group has maintained an impeccable safety record over its 13 years history, having safely carried over 230 million passengers in this time.

2. With regards to this particular rating system in question (airlineratings.com), 2 points are deducted automatically for choosing not to participate in IATA membership, which in itself if not a direct reflection on the actual safety standard of any airline listed. Further points have been incorrectly deducted from each of the other AirAsia AOCs (AirAsia India, Malaysia AirAsia, Thai AirAsia, AirAsia Zest and AirAsia X) for fatalities, which have never occurred.

3. The IATA Operational Safety Audit program (IOSA) is undertaken as part of IATA membership. AirAsia, like many well established and regarded Low-Cost Carriers globally, opts not to participate in the IATA membership program and as such does not participate in the associated Operational Safety Audit program.
