Look out Jenny Craig -- take cover Weight Watchers. The queen of the clothesline diet has you in her sights.Karen Gatt became an inspiration to a generation of overweight women with her Clothesline Diet. Now, launching her third book 'Why Can't I Lose Weight', she's also launched a huge broadside at the big guns of the weight loss business -- Jenny Craig, Weight Watchers, Lite 'n Easy, Xenical.

Karen's big gripe is that the expensive programs promising you'll lose a certain amount in a certain time, offer little once you stop handing over the dollars.

Three of the ladies who feature in Karen's book agree with her assessment that many of the most popular weight-loss programs only work in the short-term. Between them, the girls have tried them all.

Margaret Evans and Kerry Camilleri both lost 35 kilos and Marianne Schembri shed 30. For them, the proof iss in the low fat, low sugar, low carb pudding. “With the other programs and diet fads that I've done in the past, I saw it more as a diet and as such when you're on a diet, you go off a diet. So by changing everything, my whole outlook of life, my eating habits and my exercise habits I've been able to maintain the weight and lose quite a bit”, Kerry said.

27-year-old Kerry says Karen's is the only program to look after the diet, motivation and exercise. “I've tried hundreds of diets but never done any good because you lose a few pounds and then put on a few more. But we've changed our way of eating and we find it so much easier”, said Margaret.

Retiree Margaret says Karen's is the only program she's found which looks after the diet, the exercise and the mind. “It's about having a normal life. It's not about being on a diet for the rest of your life. It's about having a lifestyle that you can enjoy and that you can maintain”, said Marianne.

42-year-old mother of three Marianne says Karen may even have saved her life. “I love it, its my passion, its my life. I can't imagine my life without it now”, Karen said.

Karen's new book is a compilation of questions from desperate Australians and her solutions to their problems. Now she's extending that offer to all Today Tonight viewers -- promising to answer every single letter or e-mail from anyone with a weight loss or lifestyle question.

Karen's book, 'Why Can't I Lose Weight', is available at all good bookstores.
