Eva and Debra's five meals for under $50

Grocery shopping often means sticking to a budget, but restricting price doesn't have to mean cutting back on great taste.

MKR's Spice Girls show how anyone can make five tasty meals for under fifty dollars.

  1. Steak, chips and pea puree with herb butter

2. Chicken noodle Soup

  • Chicken bones (2)
  • Chicken thighs/drumsticks
  • Ginger
  • Salt
  • Rice Vermicelli noodles

3. Stir fry noodles

  • 40ml (2 tablespoons) oyster sauce
  • 40ml (2 tablespoons) soy sauce
  • 40ml (2 tablespoons) sweet chilli sauce
  • 80ml (1/3 cup) chicken stock
  • 400g thin egg noodles
  • 1/2 teaspoon Chinese five-spice powder
  • 300g chicken thigh fillets, cut into thin strips
  • 40ml (2 tablespoons) vegetable oil
  • 1 each red capsicum, seeds removed, thinly sliced
  • 4 shallots (spring onions), cut into 2cm lengths
  • 2 garlic cloves, crushed
  • 5cm piece ginger, grated
  • Wombok

4. Fried Rice

  • 1 ½ tbsp ginger
  • 4 garlic cloves
  • 1 brown onion
  • ½ cup chinese sausage
  • 5 cups day old white rice
  • 1 ½ cup spring onions
  • 2 tbsp Shiao Xing
  • ¼ teaspoon sesame oil
  • 1 tbsp oyster sauce
  • ½ large red chilli

5. Eggplant curry

  • Chilli powder
  • Tumeric powder
  • Cumin powder
  • Coriander powder
  • 1 big tomatoes
  • 2cm ginger
  • 2 cloves of garlic
  • 1 big Onion
  • 1 ½ Tamarind
  • 1 Eggplant
