Grant Denyer's Big Decision

AND FINAL SUNRISE WEATHER VISIT TO PERTH

Friday 8 December 2006

After more than three years as the Sunrise weather guy, Grant Denyer is changing direction in 2007.

Next week will be his last week presenting the weather, with his final day on Friday 15 December.

Grant made the announcement this morning live on Sunrise and says it is a life changing decision.

"Kochie, Mel and then entire Sunrise family have given me the opportunity of a lifetime. The warmth of this show and its unique appeal has made working on Sunrise the greatest experience of my life.

"It's like moving out of home. I'm nervous but excited about new opportunities and the good news is from time to time I'll be bringing my washing home!

"In all seriousness, Sunrise has allowed me to live the ultimate life of experiencing everything Australia has to offer. This decision though is a personal one because it's time to give something back to those that love me the most.

"I have been away travelling for the last three years and have missed out on so many important events with my parents, my two sisters and my girlfriend Belinda. It's now time I give something back," he said.

This won't be the last we see of Grant though. He will still be an important part of the Sunrise family taking on the role of roving reporter. Grant will also be involved in several other Channel Seven shows and projects which will be announced next year.

"At some point the son of the Sunrise family has to do some growing up and see what the world of TV is all about. I've had a taste with winning Dancing With The Stars and hosting It Takes Two, but Channel 7 is on the verge of some very exciting projects which will move the network and me in a new direction and it's really exciting to be a part of it.

"Motor racing is also a really big passion of mine and if I'm really serious about fulfilling my dream of standing on the top spot at Bathurst then I need to dedicate more time to it. Channel Seven is home of V8 Super Car racing in 2007 and they've given me the confidence to chase my motorsport dreams.

"Today is a very sad but exciting day for me. In the last three years I have been around the entire country, I've broadcast from a different town every day, I've taken almost 1000 flights, I've done the impossible and become a dance champion, I've come 9 th in my first Bathurst race and I've set five new Guinness World Records. It's been quite a ride and I've loved every minute of it!"

Grant's final week of weather will take him right around the country starting in Adelaide on Monday the 11th, Melbourne on Tuesday the 12 th, Perth on Wednesday the 13 th (at the Swan Bell Tower) , Brisbane on Thursday the 14 th and back to Sydney on Friday the 15 th December.

Sunrise Executive Producer Adam Boland says the search for a new Sunrise weather presenter is now on and will be revealed in January 2007.

"We are very happy for Grant and this next chapter in his life. Sunrise has been the number one breakfast show for more than 115 consecutive weeks and we are confident this success will continue in 2007.

"We're going to have plenty of new faces next year as well as a new look. It's going to be a huge year and we can't wait, "he said.
