01 Oct 2004, 03:13:03 PM

International film and stage stars Paul Mercurio and Todd McKenney will head the judging panel on the Seven Network's new ballroom dancing show Dancing With The Stars.

Actor/dancer Paul Mercurio is fondly remembered for his lead role as Scott in Baz Luhrmann's hit movie Strictly Ballroom. He is also an accomplished dramatic actor, appearing in popular local shows; Blue Heelers, All Saints, Murder Call, Water Rats and The Day of the Roses. Paul continues to dance and choreograph professionally. He was a movement consultant on the Will Smith movie I Robot, and has choreographed a USA TV campaign for Coca Cola, the Harry M Miller production of Jesus Christ Superstar and the current show of Annie Get Your Gun. Recently, he appeared on stage in The Full Monty.

A former world champion in ballroom and latin dancing, singer/dancer Todd McKenney competed internationally for more than 10 years before breaking into theatre. He played Nathan Starkey in Strictly Ballroom before appearing in stage shows; Cats, 42nd Street, West Side Story and Crazy For You. Todd did 766 performances as Peter Allen in The Boy From Oz – winning two Mo Awards, the Variety Club Heart Award, the Glugg Award, the Green Room Award, the Australian Dance Award and the Helpmann Award. He recreated Gene Kelley's famous tap dance on stage in Singing In The Rain, has toured Australia in a one-man show and recently appeared in his own production Todd McKenney Live to sell out audiences at Sydney's Star City.

Joining them on the judging panel are ballroom dancing industry icons Helen Richey and Mark Wilson. A competitive dancer for more than two decades, Helen retired to coach and adjudicate, and has since judged at most major world events. She is a sought-after coach with some of her protégés winning British and World Championships.

Mark is a former five times Australian Dancesport Champion, who competed throughout the UK, Europe and Japan. Each year he adjudicates at the Australian Dancesport Championships and at competitions in Asia. He now also coaches new judges and is a junior development officer for Dancesport Victoria promoting school dance programs.

The panel of four will score each celebrity dancer – Pauline Hanson, John Wood, Bec Cartwright, Justin Melvey, Dr Katrina Warren, James Tomkins, Gabrielle Richens, and Matt Shirvington - and their professional partner in the live knock-out competition. Viewers also will help decide who is eliminated every week by SMS voting.
